Care Council

The Spencer-Van Etten Elementary School Caring Council recently demonstrated the spirit of service and community that defines the district. Over the past several weeks, students led a building-wide can drive that resulted in more than 240 pounds of food being collected for donation to the S-VE Food Cupboard.

As part of the project, Caring Council members visited the food cupboard to deliver the donations, help organize the items and learn about the history and mission of the local organization. Students gained firsthand insight into how community food supports operate and the impact they have on local families.

“Our Caring Council continues to show what it means to put others first,” Principal Matthew Stroup said. “Their efforts not only support local families but also help our students understand the importance of service, empathy and community connection.”

Advisors shared that the students approached the experience with enthusiasm, teamwork and kindness. Many Caring Council members said their “hearts were full” after participating in the donation effort and seeing how their actions directly help others in the community.

The initiative reflects the district’s commitment to fostering leadership, empathy and civic responsibility among students. S-VE extends its appreciation to all families who contributed to the drive and helped make the project a success.
