Peer mediation

Spencer-Van Etten Peer Mediators have completed 12 hours of conflict resolution training with Gina Tinker-Williams from the Community Dispute Resolution Center (CDRC) and Assistant Principal Beth Ruocco.

The Peer Mediation program will begin Oct. 20 and will be available to students who wish to resolve conflicts in a peaceful and productive way.

The training prepared mediators to help their peers address disagreements, listen effectively and reach solutions through guided discussion. The program aims to support a positive school environment and give students tools to manage conflict constructively.

Peer Mediation provides students with a confidential space to talk through issues with the support of trained classmates. The approach encourages communication and problem-solving skills that can prevent conflicts from escalating and improve relationships among students.

By involving students directly in the resolution process, the program helps build responsibility, empathy and respect throughout the school community. It also reinforces Spencer-Van Etten’s commitment to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment where all students can focus on their personal and academic growth.
