Members of the Spencer-Van Etten High School Sportsman’s Club recently traveled to Reynolds Game Farm in Ithaca to assist staff with seasonal work.
Students in grades 9–12 helped gather pheasants from pens, remove blinders, and prepare the birds for shipment. They also rolled up netting from four pheasant pens for winter storage.
The trip continues a decade-long tradition for the Sportsman’s Club, paused only during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was really fun to help the employees at Reynolds Game Farm, and I was proud of myself for growing the courage to get in the cage and pick up the birds,” said junior Amani Diboun. “Last year, I only clipped the blinders off the birds, and this year I caught them and handled them. It was such a fun experience outside of a classroom environment to gain new knowledge about pheasants and explore something new with my Sportsman’s Club. We can’t wait to go back next year.”
Students described the trip as an “im-peck-able” experience.
