SVEC Wrestling IAC

The Spencer-Van Etten Central School District boys wrestling team recorded several podium finishes Saturday at the IAC Championships in Watkins Glen, competing in a 12-team field.

Senior Kamren Westbrook placed second in the 138-pound weight class, finishing 2-1 on the day. Westbrook pinned Schuyler’s Dylan Senecal in 2:58 during the quarterfinals and earned a 12-4 major decision over Newark Valley’s Logan Rhodes in the semifinals before falling to Tioga’s Jayden Duncanson in the finals.

Junior Jak Smith finished third at 285 pounds after posting a 3-1 record. Smith opened with a 63-second pin of Schuyler’s Declan Barry and rebounded from a semifinal loss to record two pins in consolation matches, including a 1:49 fall in the third-place bout.

Junior Connor Breed also placed third at 215 pounds. After dropping his opening match, Breed won three straight, including two pins, before securing third place by disqualification.

Freshman Gabe Benjamin and junior Korbin Brenza each finished sixth in their respective weight classes. Benjamin went 2-3 at 150 pounds, earning two technical falls, while Brenza posted a 2-3 record at 157 pounds.

Sophomore Dante Davis, junior Cooper Zufall, and junior Kaden Sims each recorded one win and finished sixth in their weight classes. Senior Rodney Vaow competed at 132 pounds, while freshman Andrew Kinnetz wrestled at 126 pounds.

SVEC finished eighth overall with 94.5 points. Tioga won the team title with 319.5 points, followed by Newark Valley and Schuyler.
