Military expereince

In recognition of Veterans Day, members from several branches of the United States military visited Spencer-Van Etten Middle School to speak with students about their experiences serving the country. Veterans shared stories from their time in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, giving students a glimpse into the dedication, teamwork, and sacrifice that come with serving in the armed forces. They also brought in equipment and gear from their time in service, which allowed students to explore and ask questions about life in the military.

Students were engaged and curious, eager to learn about the different roles and responsibilities within each branch. Many asked thoughtful questions about what inspired the veterans to serve and what their day-to-day experiences were like while deployed. For the veterans, it was a chance to share their pride and help students understand the importance of service, perseverance, and commitment to one’s community and country.

“This was such a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn from real-life heroes,” said Superintendent Barbara Case. “It’s important that our students not only learn about history but also connect with the people who lived it. Events like these help build strong community connections and provide our students with meaningful, real-world experiences that stay with them long after they leave the classroom.”

The event reflected Spencer-Van Etten’s ongoing commitment to fostering both academic growth and community engagement. By bringing veterans into the classroom, the district continues to strengthen relationships between students and the community while emphasizing the importance of respect, gratitude, and civic awareness.
