Spencer-Van Etten Middle School (S-VE MS) hosted its first-ever Scripps Spelling Bee, bringing together students from multiple grade levels for a challenging and engaging academic competition.
After 15 rounds of spelling, eighth grader Delia Hutchins claimed first place by correctly spelling the winning word, memoirs. Fifth grader Alexandria Mint earned second place, while sixth grader Chase Frisbie placed third.
The extended competition highlighted the students’ preparation, perseverance and strong vocabulary skills as spellers advanced round by round.
Delia Hutchins and Alexandria Mint will go on to represent S-VE MS at the regional spelling bee in March, where they will compete for a chance to advance to the national level.
The district congratulates all participants for their hard work and wishes Delia and Alexandria the best of luck as they continue their spelling bee journey.
