The Spencer-Van Etten/Candor Eagles closed out one of their most exciting performances of the season with a hard-fought 24-22 victory over sixth-ranked Delhi on Oct. 3.

From the opening kickoff, the Eagles set the tone as Gabe Kwiatkowski returned it 80 yards for a touchdown. The momentum carried throughout the night, capped off when Rodney Vaow made a key fourth-down catch to keep the final drive alive before intercepting a pass on the last play to secure the win.

Head coach Gino Martone praised his team’s resilience after the game. “Any time you win it feels good,” Martone said. “To win a game like this — it was a great game. It’s a great team we just played, and that feeling of winning just amplifies it even more. The guys are really excited about it. It’s been a long time since we’ve won a big game like this, so it’s definitely one we’re going to build on.”

Quarterback Jakobe Foster, running back Logan Aman, and Charlie Hilbert each made key contributions on both sides of the ball, helping the Eagles rally late and defend their home field. The victory showcased the team’s determination, teamwork and trust in one another — qualities that defined their 2025 season.

Although the season has since come to a close, the win remains one of the defining moments of the year for SVEC football — a testament to the Eagles’ hard work, perseverance and spirit.
