The Spencer-Van Etten varsity volleyball team put up a strong fight on Senior Night, but fell to Newfield, 3-1, on Oct. 17 in Interscholastic Athletic Conference Small School Division play.
The Panthers celebrated seniors Lauren Gillette and Andralyn Wallace, recognizing their leadership and contributions to the program. S-VE won the second set to even the match, but Newfield regrouped to take the final two sets in close fashion. The Trojans opened with a 25-16 win before S-VE answered with a 25-17 victory. Newfield closed out the match with 28-26 and 25-22 wins.
Andralyn Wallace led the Panthers with nine service points, including three aces, and 16 digs. Trinity Ashley added eight points (three aces), five kills, two blocks and six digs, while Kelsea Swayze tallied seven points (two aces), six digs and 34 assists.
Amani Diboun recorded six points, 34 digs and three kills, and Madison Ashby contributed five points (three aces), three kills and 15 digs. Lauren Gillette registered three points, 20 kills, one block and eight digs in her final home match. Elaina Middlebrook added four kills, one block and three digs, Amma Neish chipped in six digs, and Allison Oakes added one block.
In junior varsity action, S-VE swept Newfield, 2-0, by scores of 25-10 and 25-19. Lillie Horyczun led the team with 14 points, including nine aces, and six assists, while Riley Kock added nine points (seven aces) and four assists. Leah Neish recorded three points, three kills and two digs, and Zoey Barton added four points and two digs.
The match marked the final home appearance for S-VE’s seniors and highlighted the team’s growth and determination throughout the 2025 season.
