School Tax Information

(click link above)

The Spencer - Van Etten School District in conjunction with GST BOCES has provided a web site which allows anyone to access tax information on any property in the school district.  The site provides the District's Town specific tax rates and school code number. The site allows the look up of parcels by using the last name, SWIS and Map numbers, bill number or street address. All parcels that meet the criteria are listed below the Search button. Click on the Key field to display the parcel. It shows the District, bill number, SWIS and Map numbers, Primary name, property description, assessed and taxable values, tax rate, STAR savings, tax due and date due, amount paid and date paid.

STAR Program Changes

New for 2019 and continuing into 2023, if you're applying or reapplying for the Enhanced STAR exemption,

you must enroll in the Income Verification Program (IVP). The application deadline is March 1.

Click link for more information on the Enhanced STAR exemption.

Effective in 2019 and continuing into 2023, changes are taking place in how the School Tax Relief (STAR) program is administered.

The State is transitioning STAR from a tax exemption program to a tax credit program.

According to the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance,

if you currently receive your STAR benefit as a reduction on your school tax bill (the STAR exemption),

you may receive a greater benefit if you switch to the STAR credit to receive a check instead.

New home buyers are part of the new program.

Recent changes in the law beginning in 2019 and continuing into 2023:

• The value of the STAR credit savings may increase by as much as 2% each year, but the value of the STAR exemption savings will not increase.
• The income limit for the Basic STAR exemption is now $250,000.

If your income is more than $250,000, you must switch to the STAR credit to continue receiving a STAR benefit.

If your income is $250,000 or less, you have the option to switch.

To switch to the STAR credit:

1. Notify your assessor to withdraw from the STAR exemption.
2. Follow the registration directions.
