Spencer-Van Etten students were treated to a unique blend of music and literacy during “Sing Me a Story,” a special performance by musical duo John Simon and Cal Walker.
The performers presented two interactive shows tailored to different age groups. One performance was held for students in grades 2 through 4, while a second show was designed for Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and first-grade students. Each performance used music to bring stories to life, with several selections based on children’s books, including works by local authors.
Throughout the performances, students demonstrated strong listening skills and enthusiasm, engaging respectfully as audience members while enjoying the songs and storytelling. The shows encouraged creativity, imagination and a love of reading through an energetic and age-appropriate format.
School staff noted that the performances were well received and provided students with an enjoyable opportunity to experience literature in a new and engaging way. The event supported the district’s ongoing efforts to promote literacy and enrichment opportunities for students across all grade levels.
