Dear S-VE Community,
(Wind Chill 0°F or Below)
Effective: Immediately through February
Purpose
To reduce student exposure to extreme cold and protect student health and safety during periods when the wind chill is 0°F or below.
When These Procedures Apply
These procedures are activated when the forecasted or observed wind chill reaches 0°F or below during morning pickup times.
Key Expectations for Families
Students should be dressed appropriately for severe winter weather (coat, hat, gloves/mittens, winter footwear).
Students who can see the bus approaching from their home may remain indoors until the bus is near, as long as they are ready to board promptly.
Families should expect that buses may be delayed a few minutes during extreme cold due to safety measures.
Morning Pickup Procedures During severe cold conditions:
Bus drivers will give students extra time to get to the bus to minimize outdoor waiting.
All scheduled bus stops will be made, even if students who normally wait at the roadside are not immediately visible.
Drivers will not assume a student is absent due to cold weather.
Drivers will remain as close to schedule as possible while prioritizing student safety.
Minor delays are possible due to these protective measures.
Shuttle Students
Shuttle students may wait inside the entrance of each building while waiting for buses to arrive.
Adult supervision begins at each building at 7:30 a.m.
