Dear S-VE Families,
Earlier today, the Spencer-Van Etten Central School District was informed about a potential threat at the middle school.
A staff member notified administration of a rumor that a student may have been considering harmful actions. The administration started investigating at 10:30 a.m., and the matter was addressed immediately.
District administrators and the school resource officer began investigating right away. During the course of the review, the district became aware of concerning text messages communications between students. Students who were included in the text message strand reported the information.
Local law enforcement was contacted and is working in coordination with district administration as the investigation continues. At this time, there is no confirmed threat to our schools; however, the matter remains under active investigation, and appropriate steps are being taken.
Because this situation involves minors, the district cannot release students’ names or additional identifying details. We appreciate the students who came forward and the swift response of our staff. The safety of our students and employees remains our highest priority. We will provide additional information as appropriate.
The district will provide additional details shortly as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Sincerely,
Spencer-Van Etten Central School District
