Spencer-Van Etten senior Tayah Beach made history at the New York State Girls Wrestling Championships at MVP Arena, becoming the first two-time state place-finisher in program history.
Beach finished fifth in the 120-pound weight class this season after placing fourth at the state championships last year.
The second seed in the tournament, Beach opened competition with a 91-second pin in the first round. After dropping a quarterfinal match, she responded with two decisive victories in the consolation bracket, including a pin and an 11-1 technical fall to advance. She later secured a pin in the fifth-place match to close out the tournament.
Beach concluded her senior season with a 35-5 record.
Her back-to-back podium finishes mark a significant milestone for the SVEC girls wrestling program and add to an already historic career.
