SPENCER — Spencer-Van Etten Central School District will host Community Safety Night on April 28 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the high school, providing families with information and resources focused on youth safety and well-being.
The evening will begin with refreshments in the high school library before keynote presentations from retired FBI agents Tom Utz and Joe Testani. Attendees will then have the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions covering topics such as digital child safety, teen substance abuse and mental health, teen driving risks and violence prevention through community engagement.
Interactive demonstrations will include a police drone presentation, sobriety simulator and a visit from K-9 units. Narcan training will also be offered, with kits provided to participants who complete the session. Community organizations such as CASA Trinity, the Tioga County ASAP Program, Safe Harbour advocates and the Tioga County Threat Advisory Committee will host resource tables throughout the event.
Child care will be provided by members of the National Honor Society, and raffle prizes featuring safety-themed baskets will be available. District officials encourage families and community members to attend and take advantage of the opportunity to learn strategies that support student safety at home, online and in the community.
