Spencer-Van Etten/Candor student-athlete Lauren Gillette delivered a strong performance at the girls varsity IAC Championship on Thursday, May 21, at Hillendale Golf Course.
Competing against golfers from 18 schools across the league, Gillette shot an 89 on one of the most challenging courses in the IAC. She initially finished tied for third place before settling into fourth overall following a scorecard tiebreaker.
Gillette’s performance earned her a spot at the sectional tournament at Soaring Eagles, where she will have the opportunity to compete for a chance to qualify for the state tournament.
“Lauren represented our school community exceptionally well with her focus, determination and composure throughout the tournament,” Spencer-Van Etten Superintendent Patrick Patterson said. “We are incredibly proud of her accomplishment and excited to see her continue competing at sectionals.”
Gillette will next compete at Soaring Eagles as she looks to advance to the New York State Championships.
