Last month, students in Spencer-Van Etten Central School District’s Intro to Agriculture class concluded their Floriculture Unit by creating their own faux floral arrangements, showcasing both creativity and the skills they developed throughout the unit.
As part of the project, students explored the many career opportunities within the floriculture industry while learning the fundamentals of floral design. They applied concepts such as color palettes, balance and symmetry to create visually appealing arrangements that they could take home or gift to someone special.
The hands-on lesson allowed students to combine artistic creativity with practical agricultural knowledge, giving them a deeper understanding of the floriculture field and the many career paths it offers.
“Our agriculture program continues to provide students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that connect creativity with real-world career opportunities,” Superintendent Patrick Patterson said. “Projects like this encourage students to think critically, develop new skills and discover the many possibilities that exist within the agriculture industry. I am proud of the outstanding work our students produced.”
The completed arrangements highlighted the students’ creativity, attention to detail and growing understanding of the art and science of floral design, providing a colorful conclusion to the unit.
